About Twinning

Background

Droitwich Spa has been twinned with Bad Ems, another spa

town, in Germany through a joint Council Twinning Charter

signed in 1983. Since then visits have taken place in alternate

years to each town.

What is this twinning all about?

It's when the people, across all walks of life, from similar

towns or cities and from two (or more) countries join

together, often through formal Town Twinning Charters, to

exchange friendship and culture through visits to each others

towns either as individuals, groups or clubs (e.g. walking,

dancing, tennis, football).

Do I need to speak German?

NO. It is definitely not essential, many Germans speak very

good English, but it is always good to try to learn some

German words.

Where/with whom will I stay in Bad Ems?

You will stay in the house of your host family in Bad Ems or

the surrounding villages. The hospitality is fantastic!

How do I choose my twinning partners?

Individuals, couples and families from each town give

information about themselves, e.g. ages, occupations,

hobbies, sports, likes and dislikes and then similar people or

families are paired (or twinned) wherever possible. The

moredetail you give the better!

Why Twin?

For fun, enjoyment, friendship, and to see and share in each

other's towns, countries and lifestyles (through twinning

activities) in a way that goes beyond mere tourism. It is also a

good way to meet many new friends in Droitwich Spa.

How is Twinning Funded?

The Twinning Associations in Droitwich are not "a jolly on the

Rates" and never have been. All expenses are paid for from

the members pockets, not from the Council Tax payers.
