Bad Ems

Where is Bad Ems?

As the crow flies it is 840km (550 miles) from Droitwich Spa and lies in the
beautiful Lahn Valley close to Koblenz, which is where the Moselle and
Rhine rivers meet. It is about midway between Cologne and Frankfurt. By
car and ferry (or tunnel) the journey time is about 12 hours.

What does Bad Ems look like?

Bad Ems is a town with surrounding villages, set in beautiful countryside in the Lahn Valley.
There is very little industry in the Bad Ems area itself - most people commute to work
in surrounding areas.

The Bad Ems town centre is alongside the river Lahn with some very impressive buildings and a
funicular railway to the top of the valley, giving spectacular views over the town and river. The
town also has natural mineral water springs as well as therapeutic baths and health clinics. For

What is Bad Ems famous for?

Each year, at the end of August, it hosts one of the largest flower carnivals in Europe when the whole
town 'parties'. The Carnival procession is very spectacular and floats covered in flowers, plus bands,
troupes etc., taking about one and a half hours to pass. There are also fireworks, a fairground,
markets, beer tents etc. - an event you would never forget!
